In England and Wales, the people named in the deceased’s Will as their Executors, have the legal authority to carry out Probate. If the deceased didn’t make a Will, the Administrator, as determined by the Rules of Intestacy are primarily responsible for arranging their funeral.
If you are an Executor, be sure to check to see if the deceased had taken out a funeral plan or whether they have a funeral or life insurance policy that will cover costs. If the deceased had a funeral plan, you may be obliged to use particular funeral directors, or choose an option from what they have available for the funeral.
